A Walk Down Memory Lane

We have been digging in our archives to put together a memorabilia collection for Lees and when doing so came across this old photograph from 1956. Things looked a little different from how they are now!

Our Lees Macaroon ad is seen gracing the front of a tram as it trundles through Dundee City Centre 59 years ago. The Lees Macaroon bar was developed in 1931 when John Justice Lees, stumbled upon the recipe. He had been trying to develop a smooth chocolate fondant bar in the premises above his father’s shop in Newlands Street, Coatbridge. He was unsuccessful in his attempts, so as an experiment he covered the bar in coconut.

Although a lot has changed since this picture was taken, the recipe remains the same and is now established as a Scottish favourite!

We are calling for all fans of Lees to send in any old pictures they have of our products and any advertisements which we can add to our growing collection. There is a goody bag full of Lees treats up for grabs for the best picture!
