Searching for Scotland’s favourite ice-cream hot spot
The Waverley Bakery is launching a Scotland wide search to find the nation’s best-loved ice-cream destination. The Golden Cone Awards will run in partnership with the Sunday Mail over a seven week period and will encourage customers to vote for their favourite place to eat and enjoy ice-cream.
The campaign ‘licked off’ on Sunday with a feature in the paper showcasing some Scottish celebrities favourite places to eat ice-cream and asking the public to nominate theirs.
Ice-cream retailers have been provided with marketing material including posters and leaflets in order to generate support from their loyal customers in their quest to be crowned the winner and receive The Waverley Bakery Golden Cone.
Nadia Millar, managing director of The Waverley Bakery said: “There is a real sense of nostalgia that surrounds ice-cream cafes and ice-cream parlours in Scotland. Everyone recalls being taken out for ice-cream when they were kids and the aim of the campaign is to ask consumers to rekindle that love.
“We want to celebrate the ice-cream industry and generate publicity for our customers. It is hoped that in time The Golden Cone Awards will become the equivalent of the Oscars for ice-cream retailers.”
When the initial voting process closes, a shortlist of the top 12 will be announced and a selection of the outlets will be visited by a panel of judges in order to select the winning establishment. The judging panel will consist of Sunday Mail executive editor Jim Wilson, Sunday Mail columnist Cat Harvey, one of the original members of The Waverley Bakery Anthony Zaccardelli and River City star Libby McArthur. The winner will be announced 26 May 2013 in the Sunday Mail.
